Several weeks in advance of his 90th birthday, Ravi Shankar has today received an honorary Doctor of Law degree from the University of Melbourne for his contribution to music and humanity. Previous recipients of the degree include Burmese democracy activist Aung San Suu Kyi and Tibetan leader the Dalai Lama. Ravi Shankar is currently on his 'Farewell to Australia Tour" with Anoushka, Tanmoy Bose on tabla and Ravichandra Kulur on flute.

The Ravi Shankar Foundation proudly announces the launch of East Meets West Music (EMWMusic). With the creation of EMWMusic, Ravi Shankar bridges any divide between his recorded music and his audience. With unique access to an astonishing archive featuring thousands of hours of live performance audio, film footage, interviews, and studio masters, the legendary sitarist and composer hopes to provide a glimpse into what has most inspired and shaped him in his 70-plus years on stage. And, in keeping with Ravi's dedication to looking forward and not back, EMWMusic provides a vibrant platform for new artists, projects, and collaborations. The debut release, Nine Decades: Volume One, is scheduled for Ravi's 90th birthday on April 7th. The Nine Decades series will feature rare live performances hand-picked by Ravi. The series will focus decade by decade on performances that are particulary meaningful to the artist himself. In October 2010, EMWMusic will release the George Harrison produced documentary on Ravi, called Raga. The soundtrack to the film will also be available in October. The newly launched website, EastMeetsWestMusic.com, features release updates and performance information for both Ravi and Anoushka Shankar.

Anoushka is featured on Joshua Bell's recently released album titled "At Home With Friends". Anoushka & Joshua perform the track titled "Variant Moods - Duet For Sitar & Violin, which is a piece that was written by Anoushka's father, Ravi Shankar, specifically for them.
Orpheus Raga
Prior to the premiere of Ravi Shankar's Third Concerto at the Carnegie Hall by the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, the Orchestra partnering with Paybill Arts, will host "Orpheus Raga" a series of 12 (3-5 min each) web broadcasts documenting the unique rehearsal process with Anoushka Shankar.
The webisodes start on January 21, at 9:00 am, at playbillarts.com. The site will also host selections from the EMI Classics library featuring Orpheus and Ravi Shankar. The series will culminate with the Jan. 31 premiere at the Stern Auditorium. Registration for viewing the webisodes is free. Ten registrants will be randomly selected to win a pair of free tickets to the concert.

Nitin Sawhney and Anoushka co-wrote a beautiful piece of music together titled "Charu Keshi Rain," which is the closing track on his new album, "London Undersound." Also, Thievery Corporation recently released "Radio Retaliation" which features Anoushka on the track "Mandala."

Ravi Shankar tour date Cancellations
With great regret Ravi Shankar has had to cancel the majority of his 'Farewell to Europe' tour next month for health reasons. This means that his performances and masterclasses in May in Paris, Barcelona (1 June) and London will no longer be going ahead.
Raviji's doctors advise that he may be well enough to travel by the beginning of June. It is therefore his intention to still come to London for the performance at the Barbican on 4 June.
We are hoping to reschedule Ravi Shankar's performance at the Salle Pleyel in Paris later this year, and details of this will be announced shortly.

Anoushka is on the very first cover of the Indian edition of Rolling Stone magazine. To launch the magazine they have done five special edition covers, and Anoushka is cover #1 of 5, and the only Indian on a cover.
World Economic Forum
Anoushka Shankar is on the list of Young Global Leaders for 2008 announced by the World Economic Forum. WEF said in a statement that the honour is bestowed each year to recognise the top 200-300 young leaders from around the world for their professional accomplishments, commitment to society and potential to contribute to shaping the future of the world.
Lincoln Center
Anoushka, along with her father, Ravi Shankar and composer Philip Glass were honored by the Asian Cultural Council at the Lincoln Center in New York City on November 13, 2007. At the occasion, Anoushka had the honour of performing a duet with Philip Glass, comprising of short pieces composed by Glass, Mr Shankar, and herself.

Anoushka Shankar and Karsh Kale have just performed a historic concert at Stern Grove, San Francisco in support of their upcoming joint release, "Breathing Under Water." The full-capacity crowd of 14,000 heard the world premier of songs from the new record, plus some of their past hits. Anoushka and Karsh were joined onstage by Gaurav Raina of the MIDIval Punditz, Bollywood composer Salim Merchant, and other special guests.

Anoushka on BBC Proms
Anoushka Shankar returns to London in August to take part in the BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall. This eagerly awaited return to the Proms follows the huge success of her performance there two years ago, and features her as a special guest artist appearing with Nitin Sawhney.
An Evening of Ragas
Anoushka Shankar collaborates with one of the world's leading violinists, Joshua Bell at this year's Verbier Festival in the heart of the Swiss Alps. In a tribute to her father, the great Ravi Shankar, they will perform compositions by him including the world premiere of a work he has written specifically for them. The Verbier Festival, founded in 1994, attracts international soloists of the highest level, this year hosting concerts by artists such as Martha Argerich, Evgeny Kissin, Anne-Sophie Mutter, Lang Lang and Sir Andrew Davis.
